Understanding Politics From Its Roots

At some point of a student’s life, he could be assigned to write a politics essay. However, before writing a politics essay, he needs to understand first what politics is. There is a need to have a background of a certain subject before writing about it.

The modern term ‘politics’ traces from the Greek word ‘politikos,’ which could refer to “affairs of the city” or “affairs of the state.” It could refer to how a state or city is handled or governed; thus it could mean as the science or art of governance, by which groups of people create decisions. Generally, the term is connected to how a government or state is run by a person or a group of persons. However, it could play a role in school, officers, religions and other institutions. The scope of politics is both extensive and intensive. Politics essays have been recording the issues, methods and problems involved in handling the affairs a certain institution, particularly a government.

A politics essay could easily point out the connection between a government and politics. There will never be a government without politics, as history has already told the world. All governments depend on politics. Why? In order to remain in force, the government needs policies. However, policies cannot be implemented without authority and power. That is where politics comes in. Politics deal with power behind a government and political will is need in order for a policy to be effectively implemented. Through politics, the government could acquire and apply its powers.

The way the world works today is simply the result of politics. Governments may change and policies may be evolved, but the force behind the changes and evolution is politics. Politics dictates everything that deals with decision making, from one’s home to the whole world.
